Sosialisasi Kitab Hukum Pidana Baru di Desa Jirlay, Kecamatan Aru Tengah

On January 2, 2026, Indonesia's new Criminal Code (KUHP) Law Number 1 of 2023 officially came into effect, marking an important step in the transformation of the national legal system from a colonial legacy to a more humanistic and modern framework. However, the update of the legal text is not automatically followed by public understanding. This article documents the socialization of the new Criminal Code held in Jirlay Village, Central Aru District, Aru Islands Regency, Maluku Province. This activity aims to bridge the gap between the new legal text and the understanding of the community at the village level. With an explanation and question and answer approach, the socialization emphasizes the principles of "living law", restorative justice, and changes in criminal provisions relevant to the daily lives of coastal communities. The results of the activity show that legal socialization in remote island communities requires language adjustment, contextualization with local social realities, and program sustainability so that legal understanding can be deeply embedded.
